Parental Work

What does parent involvement mean at GALEMO?

Any tasks, activities, and actions that are not pedagogical in nature are taken on at GALEMO by parents, who contribute their own core skills.

What is Parent Work (EA)?

Parent work includes all activities related to shaping and managing our school. This includes:

  1. Participation in various parent working groups (E-ARGEs), in which measures defined by the board or resulting from the School Community Forum (SGF) are implemented
  2. Support with administrative and school-related activities outside of an E-ARGE (e.g. invoice auditing, bookkeeping, HR matters)
  3. Expert-led lessons at school, accompanying Going-Outs, parent representation to the extent of a flat 10 hours
  4. Board work
  5. Payment of the substitute contribution

A proven cornerstone of parent work at GALEMO are our above-mentioned E-ARGEs, in which the tasks and work involved in running our school are organized thematically into Finance, Infrastructure, Marketing, School Community, and ad hoc work. Each E-ARGE is assigned to a board member. This serves for close exchange with the board and, where needed, support of the E-ARGE by the board, and in any case relieves the board's workload.

Parent work at GALEMO has the following goals:

  • Ensuring smooth school operations
  • Actively shaping the school and association life
  • Organizing the business side of school operations & school administration
  • Exchange and togetherness
  • Reducing the costs of school operations

How much parent work do we expect from individuals as a community?

All families are obligated to make their contribution to parent work. This happens either through active participation to the extent of 40 or more hours, or through payment of a symbolic "substitute contribution" in the amount of EUR 1,000 per school year per family.
