For the first time, GALEMO invited all of Klosterneuburg to a joint spring clean-up - with great success
GALEMO – the association for holistic learning according to Maria Montessori, this year brought the spring clean-up officially to the Aupark Klosterneuburg for the first time, and met with bright enthusiasm.
The Aupark as an extended classroom
For the students of GALEMO, the Aupark has long been more than just a local recreation area: for many years, the children and young people have used it as an extended classroom as part of their forest education days. Just as long-standing is the tradition of collecting litter together in spring. This year, for the first time, the in-house school activity became a community project, to which all of Klosterneuburg was also invited.
50 helpers pitched in
After the originally planned date literally fell through due to rain, the spring clean-up was finally able to take place last Sunday in better weather. As part of the "NÖ Frühjahrsputz" ("Lower Austria Spring Clean-Up") campaign, around 50 parents, children, and nature lovers gathered in the Aupark to jointly set an example for environmental awareness and lived community spirit.
After opening remarks from Deputy Mayor DI Dr. Maria-Theresia Eder, GALEMO's pedagogical director Mag. Katharina Jurkowitsch, as well as association chairman DI Martin Essl, everyone got straight to work. For the children in particular, the litter collection quickly turned into an exciting treasure hunt. Equipped with gloves, garbage bags, and plenty of motivation, the participants roamed the Aupark and collected everything that doesn't belong in nature.
Achieving more together
Thanks to the support of the municipal works department staff, even larger items such as broken park benches could be properly disposed of. A cozy refreshment after the work was done was thankfully provided by Bäckerei Dacho and Restaurant Manda, who supported the event and made for a pleasant close to the shared afternoon.
Save the Date: Spring 2027
The positive response shows that the joint spring clean-up is set to become a fixed part of the city's event calendar in the future. So anyone who missed the event this year will get their next chance to pitch in as early as spring 2027 - for a clean Au and a strong sense of community in Klosterneuburg.
